St Helen's Church

The Challenge

St Helens Church is situated in the historic Oxfordshire town of Abingdon. Sitting in picturesque surroundings, St Helens is an imposing building, boasting both a tower and a steeple. Dating back 1300 years, the old church has just undergone a seven month restoration project.

The Solution

The floor of the church was excavated to install underfloor heating, however contractors also found ancient bellows made from clay.  It was apparent that these pipes needed to be replaced.  The contractors, Darnells Ltd of Eynsham, contacted their local Drainage Center at Botley to source a suitable replacement and 225mm Quantum from Aliaxis UK was selected.

Justin Smith, Contracts Manager for Darnells, chose Aliaxis UK products because “ the products are easy to use, versatile and Marley has a long standing reputation for quality.  The strength of the supply network and good relationships were also a factor.”

Snaking from the centre of the church, the pipework weaves it’s way across the graveyard to the boiler room.  Here a fan extracts the air and then circulates it back around the system.  More than 100m of Quantum was used for the project.  The organ was commissioned by specialists at the beginning of April which signalled the completion of the project.
