As a result, members of our expert team, have had technical papers published and have been invited to give presentations at international industry events.

Ongoing research and development has been key to Studor’s success, ensuring that we can offer a product range and solutions which fulfil the demands of modern building practices. Through our partnership with Heriot-Watt University we developed the P.A.P.A. (invented by Professor John A. Swaffield and Dr David Campbell), developed to address the unique problems encountered in drainage systems in high-rise buildings.

Air-admittance valves (AAVs)

Studor AAVs eliminate the need for passive pipe venting and costly roof penetrations with world leading performance by their unique and patented design. The negative pressure-activated, one-way vents to protect the trap seals in the drainage system by allowing the intake of air, so that the right level of pressure within the drainage system is maintained. Their unique design guarantees a lifetime performance on quick opening reaction time, zero maintenance and a 100% closing ability that meets all leading international product standards.

P.A.P.A. - positive air pressure attenuator

The Studor P.A.P.A. is a revolutionary ‘world-first’ system developed to resolve the problems of positive pressureswithin the drainage systems of multi-storey and high-rise developments. This is the perfect complement to the range of Studor Air Admittance Valves (AAVs), providing a complete venting solution for any multi-storey building over 10 storeys high. The P.A.P.A. has changed the design of drainage venting systems, allowing building designers to simplify their sanitary waste systems with many benefits.

Maxi-Filtra

The Studor Maxi-Filtra is a robust two-way vent that eliminates bad odours with a sturdy filter designed specifically for outdoor drainage applications.
It contains a replaceable active carbon filter that operates as a two-way vent, filtering air in both directions. Its robust design means the Maxi-Filtra can be used vertically or horizontally and can be installed in hard-to-reach places. The aluminium cover provides additional protection in applications like ventilation pipe of septic tanks, water tanks and silos.

Single-stack system with P.A.P.A

The single stack system with Studor P.A.P.A.s and Air Admittance Valves (AAVs) represents a complete and unique drainage and ventilation system solution for medium and high-rise buildings.

In addition to removing the need for traditional ventilation pipes, roof penetrations and back-vents, it provides a better functioning drainage system compared to traditional 2, or even 3 pipe systems. It reduces the overall material cost, installation time, installed service space, slab & roof penetrations and passive fire protection measures, allowing you to meet your project targets and sustainability goals.

Test and demonstration

The National Lift Tower in the UK hosts the world’s tallest drainage testing installation, comprising a 96 metre soil stack fitted with Studor solutions for active ventilation. Electronic pressure sensors in the test rig allow readings in the pipework to be recorded and used to objectively analyse the performance of the system versus alternative configurations.

This “Seeing is Believing” test allows industry professionals to see first-hand in a 39-storey drainage system that active drainage ventilation really does work. The Studor P.A.P.A. and AAVs work together to balance the pressures in the system, bringing together scientific and empirical evidence.
